Will 50hp Johnson lower unit fit 65hp

I would like to know if anyone knows if a 1973 50hp johnson mod. #50ESL-73R lower unit will fit a 1973 65hp johnson mod. #65ESL-73R. Thank you.

50 was a 2 cylinder, 65 3 cylinder, doubt it, but not sure. check out the part numbers at BRP-evinrude.com literature, engine diagrams

Thank you for the reply. I checked out the web site you suggested. I found that the complete gear case assy. part #'s are different, but the gear case and bearing assy. #'s are the same. So I believe that the 50hp should fit the 65hp. I hope it fits I can get one at a resonable price. Any thoughts? Thanks again for your help. Tonyc54

I know a 50hp L/U fits up to and includeing a 60 HP. Not sure about the 65HP.

I'am guessing you dont have access to both units , if your thinking about buying one or the other can you have the seller check the bolt patterns and such.

Have him put a tape to it, center to center of bolt holes, overall lenth and the shaft.

No, it will not work. Driveshaft splines are different...

There is one on ebay as we speak. Ther is 2 days left on the auction, the buy it now price is set at $199. That is a good price in terms of what I have been watching them bring on ebay. You might check it out. Just go to ebay and type in 65 lower unit
