Twice the price? I wish, more like 4 times the price

Hows life in Malta? I envy you being "stuck" in the middle of the mediterranean. Seeing 'Malta' at the bottom of you posts brings back memories of a trip to Amalfi many years ago. Those italian girls sure are easy on the eye.

Aldo

Funny, I never thought of that. It doen't pay to have brakes better than the guy behind you!

Re: Why we need brakes!

Hi Aldo,

Plenty of easy on the eye Italian girls right here in Sydney... but back to brakes. Too busy boating on the weekend to use a 'puter, so I thought I'd give you some feedback.

While my boys washed the boat and flushed the motor, I jacked up the trailer and took off the wheels and pulled the pads. No discernable names or brand logo anywhere even after cleaning with a half can of CRC brake cleaner. Once clean, the pads look fine with no cracking and a smooth slightly shiny appearance with plenty of pad material left. There's some minor rust around the backing plates. I cleaned up the rotors and there are no scores or ridges, but again some minor rust around the perimeter. I put the pads back in and it all works, my trip to the ramp is less than 800m but there's a steep, 100m long hill. So I put the backing surge stopper clip over and did the hill... needed a fair bit of pressure to stop the thing. The we went around the block and rotated the clip out of the way and tried the hill again. Good effective retardation was felt, with way less pedal pressure. I'm happy our 50m smoking brakes incident hasn't bugga'd the pads... this time. Hopefully there won't be a next time as I put a spring washer behind the lock nut as suggested. Thanks for the help with this.

15 & a half foot quinnys' are pretty light, I'm surprised its got brakes at all (was it an option or standard?). Sounds as though you didn't do any damage :)

Aldo

Aldo,

She weighs about 700kg with half a tank. The HD Sealink trailer came with brakes as standard. Once again thanks for your advice.
