when you really "need" to take your boat out, the 'Admiral' has already made plans for you to do "family stuff"? I'm starting to think she looks over my shoulder, and when she sees me type, 'I'm going to put the boat in the water Saturday morning, and verify that I'm not overheating', she secretly goes in the other room and asks the kids, "Hey, wanna go to SeaWorld tomorrow morning?" (with that evil laugh of hers)

The reason that "always" happens is because she runs the company, not you, and decisions are not jointly made.

Yeah, I'm startin' to think the Pastor shoulda said to me, "Do you promise to love an OBEY....".
Then again, I put my foot down about tomorrow. She mentioned something about going out after church, and I told her in no uncertain terms. "I will absolutely NOT.........mind going out after church, honey. Anywhere in particular?"

I guess I'm the lucky one- we BOTH get annoyed when other people plan weekend events during boating season... "Really? Your kid HAS to graduate in June?" "What- the baby's christening couldn't wait until November?"

inconsiderate bastids. :)

I don't have a commander these days so it's mainly weather that decides whether I go out.

Been there! Fortunately now that the kids are getting old enough I'm going to start taking them fishing with me and give the "admiral" the day to herself- she won't mind that!

I'll just have to make sure they bring lots of books and handheld video games to keep them occupied when they get bored of fishing after 15 minutes

I have had similar issues, but what I do is tell the Admiral well in advance when I plan to take out the boat, and whether its for fishing, or just to do some testing (which invariably turns into a fishing trip of some sort). We also keep a joint online calendar, so I know if there is anything planned and if so what time and if my presence is required. If there is an empty time slot in the calendar, it belongs to whoever claims it first. It has worked for us for the last several years...

Mine pulled that kind of crap a few times, so I turned the tables on her and arranged family outings and hours long visits with family, going to car shows as a family activity, etc.... Hehe, she decided that going out on the boat was better than spending all day with her inlaws:)

I feel for you' emoney

Mine was fishing on the dock when I walked off a boat. I haven't been able to shake her off yet! I found her a boat and can't get her off it. Yesterday the winds were howling at 25kts...and she wanted to go out fishing. I had to put my foot down on that one. I wish I had some advice.

Good Luck!

I'm with Sasto. I just wish she'd let me catch the big fish once in awhile.

We both have hobbies that are not family oriented. When the girls where younger we would split weekend or split a day. Now that the girls are older, they like having the house to themselves while the parents are gone.

Family outings are planned, if not months ahead of time so that was never an issue.

Kids are all gone here to, (youngest is 22) and my wife likes it when I leave her alone.
