Re: Why can't I find a motor?

Jay - I've talked with that seller a few times. Really hard to get info from him, like model and serial numbers. They do a lot of painting and appear to do some jerry rigging, kind of like resurrecting the dead, and always hold out for a crazy high reserve price. I can't see paying $2200 for 30 year old 70 hp motor, when I only paid $2000 for a 2 year old 50 hp., I know I stole this one.

Call me cheap, but I think the price has to match the merchandise.

I agree. Any seller who will not provide basic information about a motor, gets crossed off of my list immediately.

I also agree that the price has to match what is being sold. I love my old J65, but I paid $400 for it originally. I did put a lot of money into it, but I had a completely refurbished motor, by the time I was finished.

I also agree that the "repaint guys," are sometimes doing little more than making a motor look nice, while leaving the mechanical issues unrepaired.

Hey Roscoe, just a thought. Jefferson swap meet is this weekend. while it is mstly cars, every road aiming towards Jefferson will have anything you can imagine out for sale on the curb. take a drive around, you never know you might get lucky. Front yards are already starting to fill up by us.

Yep, used to travel all the roads - weekly - from Butler to Watertown, north the Red Granite, and back east to Menasha. Lots of stuff for sale.
Now I live in no man's land, nice and quiet, but it has its limitations.

I guess things have'nt changed ... some time back I was shopping for an OB anywhere from 90 hp to 150 hp ... any year any brand as long as it would be in top shape. After 8 months of waisting my time I ended up buying a complete boat that had a Merc 115 hp on it ... kept the OB and sold the boat & trailer. That actualy turned out to be a good $ deal.

Thanks Sam, gonna try to contact them.

The one in Afton MN was sold before I could get there.

Hard to get there when you have to drive very far, and have a second shift work schedule.
