Re: Who wants to make $75?-Router Configuration!
What I am getting out of this is that he had a cable modem going to a 8 port router...now he has a DSL modem/router combo, that he wants to turn off the wireless broadcast and go to his existing 8 port router...I don't see where he wants to have a modem with a 4 port router and connect that to an 8 port router for essentially a 11 port setup...
so what is it
option 1. modem/router combo with its 4 ports with a 8 port netgear router used to expand the system to a 12 port(actually 11 port) setup...
option 2. modem/router combo with the router disabled feeding a 8 port router for a total of 8 wired ports...
If option one is what hes going for you have to set an option to link the routers in the settings...
If its option 2 and with it wired properly and cycled on properly it still doesn't work its a PPPoE setup problem...
I wanted to continue to use my 8 port Netgear Router as I have about 6 different things hooked to it.
It sounds to me like it has always been option 2 he is going for...Century Link requires PPPoE in the modem and in the router settings to allow the modem and the router to establish a connection...If the modem is plugged into the wall and works on its own, then you plug port 1 into the wan port on the netgear router then plug port 1 on the router into a computer...If you can access the settings page with 192.168.1.1 but have no internet connection, the only thing it can be is the PPPoE settings in the modem and the router are wrong...You should be able to click a status tab and see what the IP address the ISP assigned is...If its blank or 0.0.0.0 something is wrong...
Once again, I have the EXACT SAME SETUP WITH THE EXACT SAME PARTS WITH THE EXACT SAME ISP...
