I was just wondering how many of you have ever bought something (or tried to buy something) from this site you are on iboats.com? What did you buy? What was your experience both positive and negative? What can we improve?

Thanks guys for the feedback! :)

Re: Who has ever bought something from iboats?

I have.... :D
Bought a garmin gps76s and the marine mount. Found the price to be great and shipping was handled fast and with no problems. I recommend it to everyone I know that shops online.

No complaints at all.

IMO, the only thing that could improve your operation is to price match like west marine, etc. But your prices are often the lowest on the net so I doubt it is of issue in most circumstances. THanks for the forum ADMIN5!!

Re: Who has ever bought something from iboats?

I was going to get my throtle/shift control from you as well as cables but I found the control somewhere else cheaper and ordered the cables along with it. They were about the same price but the price on the control was the selloing factor. BTW the cheaper control was much harder to locate and if I was getting something that was not as expensive as those things can be I would never have shopped around and found it. What can I say I am a cheap bass****. I have seen a few things I plan on ordering as soon as I get the major things back to where I can use the boat agian.

Re: Who has ever bought something from iboats?

I bought a repair manual for my outboard thru this site.
Problem was that I could not get any verification whether or not the order was recieved, it was ever shipped, or what exactly happened, and my outboard was of course not working at the time.
After a week, with no email notice or anything figured they lost the order, or something, found a different manual at Amazon, bought it, and got it delivered within a couple of days. Managed to get my outboard working again, and all was cool. and then about a week later, the manual I originally ordered showed up in the mail. I didn't try to return it, as it was a different manual and I figured tricky things that I may want to do I can cross reference in both.

PS time is of the essense in this stuff, as I originally took it to the local dealer, who told me it would take him at least 6 weeks to get to it. Had he been able to get to it, I would have paid whatever he charged to get it going again. As it was, it was back on the water 100% in about 10 days, and I ultimately saved some money to boot.
But I will no longer buy anything I need without some confirmation on when or how it will ship.

Re: Who has ever bought something from iboats?

well, maybe my price matching suggestion should be looked into for feasibility.
Sounds like a lot of possible business is lost when people would much rather spend money with Iboats IF price was the same.
You guys were within $6.00 on the gps though...
plywood- I would have been upset in your situation, too. I got two confirmation emails by the next day when I ordered. I received one with a ups tracking number so I could check on my delivery status and know when it would hit the door. The other one came as follows. Didnt you get anything like this from them via email?

copied email:

iboats Marine MegaMall Order Dec 02, 2002

Invoice: 40727 Order Date: Dec 02, 2002

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ship To: Bill To:
(DELETED (DELETED)

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Item Product Quantity Price Extended

1 14852 1 $ 375.95 $ 375.95
Garmin GPS 76S

2 14607 1 $ 20.95 $ 20.95
Garmin GPS Bracket
Garmin 010-10300-00; Marine Mount 76 & Map-76

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Items Ship By Shipping & Handling

1- 2 UPS 3 Day Select $ 12.97

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Subtotal $ 396.90

S & H $ 12.97

Order Total $ 409.87

------------------------------------------------------------------------

The invoice number for your order is 40727. Please include this
number in correspondence with us. If you have questions, email
CustomerService@iboats.com or call iboats.com toll-free at
1-800-869-1686 or 1-877-857-0244.

Re: Who has ever bought something from iboats?

Frankly, I cannot recall whether it was thru an iboats, or just a private vendor with a link to iboats. So I am not exactly sure whether it is a fair criticism of iboats or not, but I did link to them at least from this site.
And no, no order confirmation, no shipping confirmation, no nothing.
And I even used my Visa Debit card that I can view transactions online, and no transaction appeared before I ordered from Amazon. It appeared a couple of days later. (At least they waited until it shipped to debit my account, which is ok) but if there was a delay for some reason, I felt I should be notified by email of the status of the order.

Re: Who has ever bought something from iboats?

My opinion is much the same as Gonfishin... I was and still am looking for basic/universal type covers for both my boats...

I went through the megamall and looked at every page during a search for a boat cover and did not see even one boat cover under the search heading "boat covers".... All that was there were horns, some tie downs, and 20 or so pages of books of all sorts... Not one boat cover... (I know how to find the books now, just type "boat cover" in the megamall search) Sorry Admin5, I don't mean to be a Smart A$$, but thats what I found..

Could you somehow make the search function less random to take you directly to what your searching for... Sometimes it's really good and you find what you need right off the bat... Othertimes it's not...

I finaly did find the link through Custom Boat Covers to find universal type covers and was slightly shocked by the prices for what I was looking for...

Both covers were $25 to $50 less here in town.. Add too that the shipping cost and you can see why I'm looking elsewhere..

I really have to shop for price as I'm just about dirt poor and have two boats to cover and maintain, which explains why I'm about dirt poor, I guess.. :(

I will eventually buy something from Iboats... I promise... :)

Re: Who has ever bought something from iboats?

I know this sounds like I am becoming Mr. Iboat's buttkisser, but I dont understand it snapper. How could it get any easier or straight forward? One of the main tabs at the top of my screen right now is "boat covers". When I clicked on it, It brought up a bunch of custom boat covers designed for each make boat, scrolled down and it then said .... universal covers. I clicked on it and then was able to choose from the choices the cover that would fit my boat. I agree, the prices for the nice covers that are trailerable are $$$, but I dont see how the website is confusing??? :(
Maybe it has been corrected since you posted, I dont know? I have never searched for a boat cover on here before your post.
Ok, I will quit defending these guys, as I must be the only one who has had a good experience with Iboats. Now, I know how bayliner and force got such a bad reputation!! ;) ;) :D :D :D

Re: Who has ever bought something from iboats?

I bought some books and a videotape for grandchildren for Xmas. So far they have gotten the tape. I got Email from iboats that one book was late and asked them to wait and ship them all together. I have heard nothing since, but sometimes grandchildren forget to let you know.

I also bought an onboard battery charger. Came quick, works great.

2 Clymer Shop manuals, and not sure of link depth here, but linked to asst impellers, head and port gaskets, a tach ,mercruiser350 risers and other thingies.... But I didn't pay it much attention at those times to make a note of it. So from what is directly linked to what is not, I didn't seperate or think about.Thinkin hurts my head  .

Re: Who has ever bought something from iboats?

prop
2 kicker motors Mercs
Manuals, switches, misc.
2 gas caps, had to get 2 cause I couldn't tell which would fit on the website, It was cheaper to do it this way than to have to reorder and pay shipping on another order.

I too have had items show up in totally unrelated sections of the site.

Only real complaint is the shipping on the kicker motors. No home delivery. They came on the regular FEDEX truck, cost $80, and would not deliver to my house, but did stop at the business next door. I was also real surprised when one motor showed up with half a tank of gas!!!

Re: Who has ever bought something from iboats?

I havn't bought anything, but plan to. In general I support my local shops with little purchases cause I'm a do it yourselfer(fuel line ,clamps etc.).I even sewed my own canvas soft top, and dyed it when it immediately faded in the sun. I plan to buy a rebuilt engine/powerhead/LU here when the time comes.
You all wouldn't believe my boat, not pretty but is reliable, solid, no mechanical/structural faults and has a lot of capability. I'll have to post photos sometime.
