I have a lock on my hitch reciever and trailer tongue hitch... just to keep honest people honest while my truck and trailer are parked at the launch.

Does anyone not bother with these?

I see plenty of trailers around here that all anyone would have to do is hitch up and go. I lock mine, so hopefully the crooks will move on to the easier targets.

Never heard of a trailer being stolen off a truck around here. No locks on mine, just the pin.

Re: Who doesn't secure their trailer?

Mine is never locked. None of my trailers are. Never had any problems, or know of anybody who problems with theft. Keys are usually in the truck too, so if they want the trailer, they don't even have to unhook it. They can take the whole thing.

If I go to an area that I don't know, I will take the keys out of the truck, and if I remember to I put a lock on the trailer. Never near home though.

If you find it, would you kindly call the number on the insurance card and report it stolen for me so I can go shopping for a new one?

Re: Who doesn't secure their trailer?

Locked right now while my trailer is on my storage lot, and as soon as I hook it to my hitch the lock goes right back on. To me it's just a little added piece of mind that the coupler will stay closed while I am towing, I didn't even consider having someone steal my trailer. I was shocked that people didn't lock their trailers to their tow vehicles after reading a couple of the vengeful stories on here about people's actions this weekend.

If I had a awesome trailer.. Maybe... Mine is a rag muffin that serves the purpose...

The lake I go to most has a city park with it's own county ran Lake Patrol.. They cruise the parking lot often.. You would have to have balls to steal a trailer there..

What stops em from removing the nut and taking the ball? Guess you could weld it on..Wouldn't be better to lock the safety chain to the truck?

On the truck or off, my trailers always locked. If it ever does get stolen, it won't be because I didn't take precautions.

Re: Who doesn't secure their trailer?

Never lock mine. Don't think anyone would even want my trailer. It's designed from the ground up to only fit my specific and obscure model of boat. Would take more re-engineering than it's worth considering all the other nice trailer at the ramp.

If I wanted to secure my trailer I would have to have my mother in law sit on the tongue for 100% security, nobody will go near that .....err......um......woman.

so here we go again--someone has to see his situation as everyone's situation, and call anyone who does things differently ignorant. FTR I don't lock mine, to answer the question directly. But I don't use public ramps much. And I am hardly ignorant when it comes to boating.

Re: Who doesn't secure their trailer?

i dont lock my trailer but mainly because we dont have that issue where i go, its mostly the millionairs marina. i have a locking hitch pin, so my brother wont pawn it off like he does almost everything else. but i am not worried about him stealing my boat because its to big for him to move :).

Mine is never locked. None of my trailers are. Never had any problems, or know of anybody who problems with theft. Keys are usually in the truck too, so if they want the trailer, they don't even have to unhook it. They can take the whole thing.

my uncle does that even worse, for the first 20 years he owned his house he never had the key to lock the front door. just put a new front door on this year now has a lock. no one ever broke into his house and stole anything though.

I don't lock my cars, why should I lock the trailer?

Hitch is locked but not for theft purposes. The receiver is just pinned. If you want it take it. I have insurance.
