Hi,
I have a 17 foot Nitro bass boat and the trailer winch needs to be replaced.
I see it is a 1400 lb winch on it now, but I have looked at the choices to replace it with and I see for a few dollara CHEAPER I can get a 1600 lb winch with dual gears (one on each side)

Should I just get the stock 1400 lb replacement?
Will it hurt or be a bad thing to get a higher capacity one? I think either will fit, they are both standard bolt hole configuration, look to be about the same size. I just thought it would be a good thing to have dual gears abd a higher rated, but have not replaced one before.

Maybe simple stock replacement is the way to go. 10 year old boat, the winch handle is getting sloppy. I prefer to replace the whole thing as opposed to just the handle.

It really should not matter so long as the mounting plates match your current bolt configuration. The dual gears should make it a little easier to crank under a load.

Get a 2 speed. They cost very little more, but are very handy.

thanks for the reply. I havent had any issues with it, I think the boat is all of 1200 lbs loaded, but two gears is beefier and well it is 2 dollars less money :)

Get a new one of your choice but keep the old one and mount it down low like on the trailer Toung to hook to the same bow eye and help the boat from bounceing up and down. Also the day the main wench strap breaks you can still get the boat on the trailer.
