restoring the hull will cost you a minimum of $3000 on materials alone. since the transom is soft, you can put the key-holes anywhere because the transom will need to be replaced.

measure the center to center distance of the keyholes. if your over 33", you can shoe-horn some V6's or V8's in there. I would prefer 34-36", however 33 is the minimum per the mercruiser installation manual. (28" on in-line motors)

Ayuh,.... So long as ya do the hull resto outlined by Scott,....

For repower options,....
You should be able to find 2 rotten donor boats, with a 350 motor, 'n Alpha drives for 'tween $2000., 'n $4000. each,....
So long as they're both the same, you've got yer new driveline,....

If ya want a brand new driveline, Merc will sell ya any combination of motors, 'n drives ya want,....
Probably in the $10,000. to $20,000. range, Each,....

you abandon photobucket, reduce the size of your photo to about 400kb and post directly to iboats.

to update your account with photobucket, you now must spend $400 per year. google it

You mentioned that this will be a casual project, if you don't have an intense desire and the drive to quickly complete this project it will never get finished. It will take large chunks of time, and even more money, I'd bail now, and if you actually want a boat, get something that already runs as a starter boat and see if you like it. You should be able to buy something in working condition for less than half of what it will cost to rebuild this disaster.

Hey Scott I'm getting that error when trying view the hull restore not load pics myself.

And ondarvr yes I mentioned that bc I have no time frame mostly. I see what your saying as far as the work load and yes I could get a water ready boat for 1/2 the money but it would prob be 1/2 the boat too unless you can point me to where that wouldn't be the case. As far as drive there is plenty I can assure you. But drive and speed are 2 catagories that are opposite ends of the spectrum my friend. I understand and appreciate what your saying and if you can show me where I can accomplish the first thing mention I would appreciate it as well.

This was after a 10 second search.

This is common, You can buy 26' cruisers in running condition for $5000 - $8000, not that they're perfect, but the prior owner has frequently dumped a bunch of money into it over the last few years to upgrade things and now just wants out. What he finds out is that the resale market for boats in this size range is small, which results in low prices.

You definitely gave me something to think about my friend and I do appreciate it. I did a quick search around here and wasn't quite as lucky but I will keep looking. Thanks again
