Which impeller kit for my '94 Alpha 1?

Called iboats to order the impeller repair kit and they weren't sure which one I need.

It's a 1994 Merc Alpha 1, Serial # 0f179376. Is this something that iboats carries?

a '94 should be an Alpha 1 Gen 2.

That's probably right, I'm not sure how to verify. Can you tell from the serial #? All it says on the outdrive is Alpha 1.

Yup, according to that it would be an Alpha 1 Gen 2.

I believe that means that the only impeller kit that would work for that application would be the 18-3214. Does that seem right?

It does say that kit works for Serial #s D494569 & Above. I guess I'm just not sure how the serial #s are ordered. Is 0f179376 above D494569?

Yep, usually the 0 is dropped, so your F series is later than the D series.

Ah, well that makes a whole lot more sense. Thanks very much for the heads up.

So, along with this kit, I would also need some synthetic gear lube and a pump. Anything else for a simple impeller change? Is 1 quart of gear lube enough?

I dont know that you need to use synthetic? I use dino lube in mine.

And it takes more than one quart, I forget how much exactly since I buy it in a gallon jug.

The A1 G1's take just over a quart, the G2's should be similar. I use the HP synthetic, very expensive @ $16-17/qt, but only a buck or two more than the standard drive oil.
