hi all - first post!
i'm looking at buying a Sugar Sand boat, i've noticed that up to 2006 there is a 240 merc available and then 2007 and up the motor is a 200 optimax. is the newer 200 as powerful as the 240? which is a better engine? did they ever put a 250 merc engine in the sugar sand? i'm looking to buy a 2006 or newer, any tips on buying or anything else would be very much appreciated.

thanks in advance

most likely they were trying to save money and simply put a smaller motor on in '07

Welcome to iboats!!

They have a website http://www.sugarsand.com/

Keep this in mind....... unless you need the jet.... jet's do not perform as an equal HP outboard or inboard outboard.

There is a serious power loss with the jet's but their ability to go over shallow is inedible !!

Where do you want to boat?? Lake? ocean? Bay? River?

200 hp is 200 hp. The newer 200 isn't any more powerful than a 200 hp from 20 years ago. (assuming equal hours on the engine, and they both are in good mechanical shape) Unless I'm mistaken, the 200 and 240 are identical engines, with the 240 getting larger injectors, more tuning, and the tuned thru-hull exhaust system. The 200 used the standard sportjet exhaust. (the exhaust system was fairly massive, and took up lots of interior room.)

Sugar sand used pretty much every engine in the sportjet lineup, in every single boat. It all depended on price point, obviously a boat with a 200 is cheaper than a 240. My tango came with anything from a 175 at the low end up to a 240, with everything in between thrown in.

Sugar sand has been out of business for quite a few years. Some of the original people involved were working on bringing the brand back and starting up production again from Fargo, ND, but I haven't heard much more of it recently. That website is an outdated placeholder, no real content on it.

I think the 200 is a optimax di while the 240 is efi Don't know how much difference there is in performance but the 200 would be much better on fuel economy.
