Where to purchase XP 200 Carb Kit

Hey guys/gals, first post here...

I just bought a 20-foot 1988 Champion Bass boat from my brother and he said I need to overhaul the carburetor on the Evinrude XP 200 ASAP. He said it has NEVER been done since the boat left the factory in 1988 and he thought I could get a carb kit pretty easy. So, where do you recommend I get one? Should I buy OMC or third-party brand? What should I expect to pay? And, also since this thing has been sitting for months and ran crappy in the past, what else should I check to get it ready to go? Fuel filters? Plugs? Change oil? What do you think? I'm excited to get this thing on the lake right away.

First off, check your compression, spark, g/c oil and fuel filters. Then do the water pump. I would say get your carb parts at Shop.Evinrude.com as they are OEM parts.

Randy, It does not sound as though you have much experience with 2 cycle Outbaord motors. I would therefore recommend an Evinrude Service manual, be your first purchase. Marineengine.com has them as do several other places. Have the model number handy.

Carb kits (you will likely need six of them) are available many places, both OEM and aftermarket.

You're right. I'm a noob in this realm. I understand engines fine and do most vehicle repairs myself, but haven't worked on outboard engines much. I've spent a ton of time on the water, but haven't worked on outboard engines much. A manual is a great recommendation. Thanks!

For the carb kit, my model number is E200STLCCM 1988. Looks like there are 3 different carb kits listed under that model number: http://d.pr/NQNo

Do I buy with or without floats (I suppose maybe I should inspect mine before ordering?) Or just go w/o floats and then buy new ones if needed? Also, Sierra vs OMC, is there a big difference in quality between OEM and aftermarket?

I'm old, so I stick with OEM. Never had a problem.

Mine is a 200STL not a TX or CX, so it looks like I should get 0398557, right?

Incidentally, I took each carb apart and gave them a good cleaning. I know I'll need to do it again when the kits come in, but I thought it might help for now. They all looked pretty good and the jets and everything are all clean now.

Now in the meantime, I just need to figure out where to get rid of 52 gallons of old stale gas which sat in the tanks for over 2 years. Sadly, it looks like I can't burn it in my Jeep since it's so old & bad. At least that's what a mechanic buddy says. He said it might be ok, but I'd be risking stuck valves or a killing the fuel pump. Maybe I can drop it off at a hazardous waste facility. Or...bonfire? :facepalm:
