I just purchased a 1976 Terry Pro 55, I got it to canniblize some of the parts from the trailer but now I'm thinking I could maybe fix her up. I cant seem to find much info on these boats and have no idea what year or hp the motor is, but the label on the inside says evinrude. As you can see from the photos the wood under the carpet is shot. Where would you begin this project to get her on the water? Any help would be appreciated.

Cute boat. That transom shows some warning signs to me. If you are going to do the restoration...... you will become intimate with every nook and cranny.

No serial numbers on the motor..... close to where the steering hooks up?

I would get rid of the old carpet and look hard at the wood.

The motor is an older model, probably any-were from maybe a 8.5-35hp can't tell, Id lift the floor out, clean the bottom check everything out, and put some new wood down, hows the hull, transome? Good luck :) be sure to keep updated!

The numbers on the plate are 25928-25216. The transom needs some work but I only have 100 into the boat if I would like to fix it for cheap and give it to my mom and her hubby to take on Kentucky Lake. If I could do it for cheap.

I'm not good with number I can read car serial #'s It looks possible that it has 25hp, and is a mid to late 1950's, hope i was able to help some? Some transom work shouldn't be to expensive, or difficult. good luck, looks like you got one heck of a deal.

Re: Where to begin?

I tore out the wet foam and discovered one spot the fg was gone and the wood was shot.
1 The frame is realitively sturdy could I cut out the mushy board, FG over the area to waterproof and be done with that part.
2 I plan to put in some liquid foam and plywood over that How thick should I go with the PW and will I have to Fg over that or could I seal it around the edges some other way?

I plan to tear out everything from the casting deck to the livewell-gastank storage. All of the foam is soaked. The bad board in the pic is the deck

That's a pretty cute boat. And, it'll only look better when you're done.

I can't say for the other people but I make a list, three actually:

Safety/Seaworthiness
Life jackets, CG mandated items, engine, transom, bilge pumps, lights....
Comfort/Convenience
Porta potty, seat cushions, hatch supports....
Cosmetics
replacing a faded but serviceable bimini, seat cushions, buffing, shining bright work....

In this order.

For me, the lines can blur a bit. A rusted cleat is Cosmetics but a rusted cleat that's also loose is Safety/Seaworthiness and Cosmetics.

Your mileage may vary.

Re: Where to begin?

alright well the if the frame, and hull are still sound then your lucky. The thickness of the PW, should be equal to the thickness of marine grade ply. So bassically the average piece of ply wood is fine for thickness. As for sealing it im not sure, I will look around tho to see if I can find some info.

Re: Where to begin?

You could try to drill into it a see what kind if shavings come out, if there brown wet=rot / yellowish dry=your good to go. Just be very careful that you don't drill through the hull, after that seal it up good.

stop about 1/2, to 3/4 through that way you don't have a holl leading to the make of the transom, and that will make it a little easier to seal. You will probably need to drill at least 2 " one in each corner, if you find rot you will need to rerplace it. Just keep your fingers crossed.

Did you finish the rebuild? I also have a Terry Pro 55. I have been working on it for a while and close to having everything working. It is a cool boat the driver and pasenger seats convert into the fishing seats in front and back of the boat.
