Studly, file the break in the tab off and leave the flat portion as the anode if you go with the torque-tab...Keep your max corrosion protection that way... :)

Will do...Thanks! I ordered the torque tab, so I'll let everyone know my experiences with the new toy...I mean, necessary addition!

135 Merc Black Max. just noticed mine is also missing..thought I heard a clang when I pulled it out of the water at the ramp last week. Thought about going without replacing it, BUT it looks like the bolt for the anode is one of only 4 that retain the lower unit.

I had a 115 Merc with a Merc SS prop (don't know which one but it was ported with round holes if that helps) back in '89. I didn't pay a lot of attention as to why, but I had a lot of (engine) vibration back there when I was running 6 grand and trimmed out to the point of speed fall off. You could hear the engine singing and at a lower pitch hear the prop thrashing the water. Course white foam and spray was everywhere.

I kept loosing tabs, but the only way I knew they were gone was to see them gone. On that particular boat, I really didn't need one......course I was using the OEM skinny one which isn't much tab, really.

So finally I got some locktite and got one to stay on. Like Walleye said, preserves your corrosion protection.
