When to say when??

Purchased 1991 20' Centra / Sea-Pro WA Fisherman last summer and dug right in. Fixed trailer, replaced bilge blower, built 'new' 4.3l V6, and started on interior work before winter set in. Then the kicker - during spring clean-up and what I thought was the final steps before I could test her out found water in transom and soft wood. Obviously I should have dug deeper - lesson learned. What have you guys used as a gage for repairing / replacing a transom and determining when to move on to another boat or fix the one you have. Basically, when do I cut and run vs. rolling up the sleeves and get to work. Any input from the guys that have been around would be great.

Re: When to say when??

That question has been asked many times here and it's a tuff one too answer. What is not much $$$ to one is a lot to another.....what is a lot of work to one isn't too another.

Engines are often the deciding factor, but with yours "like new" that's not a factor now. If you ask is it worth it ( investment wise ) no.....but if you look at as what I have in a restore vs a new boat ( big$$$),then it a no brainer. The big plus of a restore is you know for sure you have a boat that is great shape.....

This just food for thought....bottom line only you can make the decision. Just make sure you like the boat and it's what you and your family want.

Sounds like you already have some time and money invested. If you dump it and buy a newer boat you might have same or different issues.

Thanks for the input. While its not the Grady White that my granfather had when I was a kid the Centra has nice lines. Gives the family a small cuddy for shelter from the sun and is still easy to trailer to the lake or down to the shore for vacation.

Sounds like you like the boat and with the engine in good shape, sounds like your decision is made. Let's know what we can do to help.
