Ayuh,.... Right now,......

Alpha 1s, 'n those before it, I like to do every other year, or 1st sign of an overheat,....

The Gen.IIs I hear can go 'bout double that time limit....

Howdy,

Well,

Your signature indicates Volvo but your question is in a Mercury forum.

I believe Volvo indicates 2 years.....

Mercruiser from their own site.....

How often should my seawater pump impeller be serviced?

Every 300 hours or 3 years, whichever comes first.

If you've run it dry, injested sand or other debris or the engine is overheating, you should look at the raw water pump first regardless of how long it's been in there.....

Regards,

Rick

Re: When to Replace Water Pump

Assuming you are referring to your 2010 Larson in your signature.

Mercruiser says you should take the Alpha drive pump apart and inspect the pump after 300 hrs or 3 years, which ever comes first and replace the worn parts.

I couldn't imagine going to all that work to look at it, and replacing the gaskets (a must if you take it apart) and not put in a new impeller.

Is there a complete OEM kit I can get for it??

If you just want the impeller and gaskets, 47-43026K06. If you want the housing too, -817275K05.

Thanks, think I'd want the kit to do everything # 817275K05.... Seems like something I'd do...with a manual. Dealer est $250, but has to see the drive or model/serial #'s for better estimate.. Did everything on my Volvo Penta, but that had external sea pump easy access..

Re: When to Replace Water Pump

The chances of the complete pump kit needing replaced in a 2010 boat is almost 0.
The housing is SS and lasts for years, don't go overboard for nothing. That carrier was a problem in the early Gen II drives, but unless it leaks, leave it alone.
Why are you going to take it to a dealer for an impeller? You came to this site to learn how to work on your boat didn't you?

Here is some Manual information.

Re: When to Replace Water Pump

Do not use Permatex/Locktite Aviation Sealant on the orings. The small quad ring should be glued into place so it doesn't get bumped out of place, I use bellows adhesive.
