When does your official "Boat Season" start?

In the Mid South, the fishermen get started in March. Most pleasure boaters get going the first of May.

Until the season turns over, the winds and waves on big lakes are tough to deal with.

All year long (as long as the boat's not down for upgrade) the only diff is when it's warmer no shoes--when it's cold-shoes on:)

Boat Season? I consider any day with winds below 10 knots a boating day! Must admit, though, 30 mph @ 40* is mighty nipply for us down here!

On Lake Mead I see fishermen out all year, but I don't go out during the colder months (don't fish much). We usually start in April or May and boat until September or October.

When we start or end our boating season just depends on if we're starting or ending our off-road season, and vice versa.

in Wisconsin, I boat from April 1st thru first week of November. usually have to watch the webcams at the ramps to find one that is clear of ice. For years, my boat is usually first one of the year to JJ's in Sister Bay

in Florida, year round.

Have started as early as mid-March.........although there was still a bit of ice to be found here & there. Usually ends up in October some time, more due to archery deer season more than weather conditions.

Tried to talk my dad into taking his Princecraft out for walleyes today !! Unheard of in these parts, usually. But we've had a few days of mid or upper 50's in a row. Unfortunately there was this huge tree threatening his machine shed that needed cutting today worse than the walleyes needed catching.

I'm fortunate enough to be able to boat year round. With very few exceptions.

Christmas Day:

I usually start in mid April. The weather around here varies from year to year. With the winter we have had so far I'm expecting a March start :D

I was surprised when I first moved to New Mexico how much water was in the desert. And, how diverse. The mountain lake I really like to fish is about 8200' and now has over 2' of ice on it. It was -10 there last night. (I did get a 20" and 18" rainbow through the ice last week) That opens about May and closes Oct. But, go south about 2 hours and the lakes are open year round. The wind is the spring thing.... It is windy here in the spring.

Well were in Phoenix, so again like some others we have no real season. I usually rest it between say November to January except for a Christmas parade that was Dec 12 this year. Right now were having 70 degree high days, the water in Lake Pleasant is about 55 degrees. Some people get in but I don't, me and the boy were out last Saturday though. We go about 7 miles upstream and it's really nice, smooth and quiet. Gotta watch for high winds sometimes but Ice on a river or lake is something I have never seen...I sometimes go boat camping along the Colorado river south of Lake Havasu and once up in Lake Mohave (south of Lake Mead) and that was in March, nice warm weather and no crowds yet..

I'm with him. I was out today actually. S. FL has it's benefits. Cost's a fortune to live here, and the people can be a bit snotty, but, man, in the winter, the weather is unbeatable. 75, sunny, 5 knot wind today in my hood. Had the boat out so they could adjust the lift. Man am I happy I didn't try to do that myself. Made me sick just watching them do it.

What's a "Boating Season"? High of 80, low of 60 today.
Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Years did get in the way for the past month & a half. Now that you mention it, think I'll haul it over to Oxnard Marina tomorrow or Friday & do a little fishing

I will be over the water this weekend, working on the dock, may just throw a line in and see if anything is biting. It is going to be a great weekend, mid to upper 70's.

Re: When does your official "Boat Season" start?

No candy-azz fair weather boater here.

For me the season starts when the water temps get into the low 40’s, typically the second week of March, and continues until the water temps drop back down to the mid-30’s, typically the last week in December or when the bait fish leave, which ever comes first.

We towed the boat down to Va. Beach and fished over the weekend so even that schedule is subject to variability.

Re: When does your official "Boat Season" start?

In the Jacksonville, area I normally never go more than a week without being on the water. My season starts 1 Jan and runs to 31 Dec, except for the 2 or 3 days that it falls below 40 which is our winter here.
