Re: what's your favorite bass bait

I've done most of my bass fishing from shore arouind rocks and off of points. Last summer I grew fond of using Berkley "Alive" 4in minnows. In the heat of the day when things were slow, the fish would still take them using a slow retrieve.

What are you nuts..I am not telling you...Heck guess I can tell one..I love the good old Jitterbug,of course its best at night and mornings and evenings but I can catch huge Bass anytime if the conditions are right...

After dark on a Full moon or atleast a fairly bright moon is great..Better have a strong heart though..Black is the only color for nighttime and the larger the better. They can see the Black great against the sky at night.

Theres a reason these Jitterbugs are one of the few surviving designs from days gone by..They Work

There are only two bass baits worth anything, and they've been around since George Perry was in diapers - grape 6" worm and chartreuse 3/8 oz spinner bait ...

I love the crankbaits...the Strike King Red Eyed Shad is by far my farovrite, then close behind comes the Model A Bombers. I fish a Carolina Rig a good bit with results, but always keep a crankbait rigged up and ready to cast.

Is the question about LIVE "BAIT" or "LURES"? The best Bass Bait for me has been live frogs. Very intersting bait to fish with. For "LURES", I like a medium sized crayfish.

Been fishing for a long time ... tried just about everything available on the market. Last thing I tried and had best results with last summer was some very unexpensive Bob-it (large model + small weight) with either a worm or leach on the hook. Caught my record bass and season quantity with that simple rig. And when I think of all the $$$ spent over all those years to fill that big ole tackle box ... LOL

I have good success with Koi Fry...if you use the good AAA Grade Japanese Koi (they have up to 4 different colors on them)...one of those colors are sure to attract Bass....so you have 4 times the chance, narrowing your odds considerably...sometimes i'll put 2 on at one time...you don't want to use one that is bigger than 5" because it might actually attack and eat the Bass...then you just end up with a Koi that is too big to use for bait...However, if this happens, you can always go home and fry up that Koi...just don't forget to bread it before frying..

I like to drop shot or put a shaky head on a Finicky Tickler. the finicky tickler is made by powerteam lures. Here in Va. Guys i swear by them. All my friends say all there baits are good all i use is The Finicky Tickler you should smell them. Even by the spray they have and spray it in the bag. here is their website http://www.powerteamlures.com/index.php check it out if anyone else has ever used them tell me how you like them

I like the flukes, use them a lot. But I love topwater... buzzbaits, spooks, poppers, etc.. Have also caught some big bass off of chatterbaits!

I love floating worms, they suspend and offer an action few other baits can. I've caught bass cranking them fast, twitching, and stop starting them. Some have flavor that I think makes fish hold on longer. They can be rigged weedless so you can fish them in the thickest junk. Of course it helps that I caught my biggest 8lbs on one. Oh and I also like the brightest color possible as its easier to see when a fish hits them.

Hard to pick between pumpkinseed grubs and a perch Bandit 100 (squared lip).

For bass either one works great.

be careful with that one, its not legal everywhere to use them for bait. its not legal in pa, anyway...

Topwater are by far the most fun, but I like to throw chartreuse mini spinnerbaits for the big smallmouths.

WOW! This thread's been going a while now, huh? Sure looks as though plastics take 1st Prize here. Someone within this thread stated they have favorites based on conditions. Well, that's good, I guess, but I've always gone with what seems to catch the most fish. In my case, it's been a medium to deep running 'Sexy Shad' crankbait. I believe KVD even uses one, although, true to the majority here, he likes plastic too. I use them all, but seem to do better with the 'Sexy Shad'.

Re: what's your favorite bass bait

i fish with medium sized shiners(Live bait) 2-3" i hook them bottom jaw thru upper jaw. use a small hook so it wont weigh them down. sometimes i set them up with a weight and leave a couple feet of line so they can swim around the bottom. caught a couple 5lb small mouth and quite a few 4lb largemouth. the small mouth are alot of fun where i fish its mostly rock ledges and they give a real fight while they try to bolt down to the bottom under some rocks.

Otherwise i use night crawlers and senkos

small mouth love crawfish esp if your fishing a rocky bottom

Re: what's your favorite bass bait

Senkos are great fun, but nothing beats a huge blow up for a buzzbait. That's what got me first hooked on fishing. Since then I've moved on to trolling and trout fishing, but I still keep a bass rig on board for those slow days.

Good times! :)
