Re: What's Iboats trying to say?

Hey, that's a good idea.
A little how-to type thing added to the monthly review.
Maybe some simpler maintenance and/or repair type items for the masses.
I know there's an "Ask the Experts" column, but it's not quite along the same lines.
I just did the impeller and lower unit oil today on one of my OBs....these should be good examples for a tech column.
Do you think iBoats would go for it?

That would be a great idea, a "Forum Tip of the Month" where each month a thread would be started so all the members could come up with the best ways to accomplish .....(insert topic here).....and then the results edited to produce a column in the iboats review. hummmm something to ponder......

I was afraid to even ask about a banner to drape over either side of the boat for unofficially sanctioned iBoats get-togethers.
Sounds like cheap advertisement.

I would be a nice idea, if they'd buy into putting potentially opposing views in the same newsletter.

I suppose we could take it upon ourselves and just start threads like that on our own...generic, non specific topics that could be stickied.

I wasn't bashing Iboats per se, but I did take a little bit of offense to it. Granted, it's all in the perspective of the reader...you can find anything to be offended about if you look hard enough.

Personally, I just thought it to be an uneducated statement...but then again, it was a condensed statement...how much could you really say without losing the readers interest?

I think the response to such an article is simple...

Grab a copy of 'oops' thread with a before, during, and after shot of the hull. I think delamination is not even on his mind after the amount of care and attention to detail he gave it. Probably the most ambitious project I've seen here yet, and it goes straight to the point of contradicting that reference article. Cost not considered of course.

I think Oops is MIA, tried calling him, left messages and have not heard from him. But I agree that is one ambitious project. Hopefully he will be out cruising in it this summer.

Have a great day,

Rob.

Actually, the advice is genetically correct. It's aimed at the general populace and not folks like us.

Look around your neighborhood and count the boats. Then look at the owners garages and see how many of them have anything more than a basic home repair kit.

On my block there are 5 boats. I have the only working shop and I fix my own boat. The rest ask me to fix their boats for them but I tell them I want to remain friends so please just take it to a shop.

So, saying that bad stringers are evil is correct if you aren't capable of fixing it yourself.

I mean, come on, would you buy what most would consider a junk boat if you're plans were to send it to a shop to get fixed. You could buy a new boat by the time you paid the shop bill. I think that's the point that was being made.

You have to remember, we turn dung into diamonds. Only a few people can do that. We are genetically different than the average person.

OOPS! is alive and well but going through some very hard times since closing the store. He has to drive past the boat every day and it's killing him to not be able to work on it. Hopefully, since he scrubbed all the overhead that was killing him,he will be able to resurface leaner and meaner and get the canoe on the water this summer.
