Can someone please help me find the year for this engine. I’ve never seen model, newer than 1980 they did not use the INTRODUCES coding. The model # of this engine is: VJ90TLASB.
The Serial # is R 08616095.
The Welch plug has # R8616095. Thank you. Thank you!IMG_8132.jpeg

It’s the same cowling as on my 1996 88 SPL. 1 latch on front and 2 on rear. What makes you think 1990? It’s a 90 hp as shown in the model # but the the SA are the letters that should be the year code. That’s not possible because there’s no A in INTRODUCES.

If Racer says it is a 1990, Chances of it being a 1990, are about 99.5+%

I’m not doubting Racerone’s answer and I appreciate the replies. Now I know that I have a great parts motor for my E88TSLEDR. I’m still curious where that model # comes from though.

Perhaps it was a model styled for a boat manufacturer.-----A ---TRACKER ----May be.-----The ---V----Indicates boat builder !!!!

Thanks everyone. 1990 it is. I appreciate the help. Now I know I just got a great deal on a parts motor. $250 for a complete motor with low compression. T&T works, lower unit is probably good. New starter. I think I won the lottery. lol. All the part #s I’ve checked so far are compatible with my 1996 88 SPL. 🙂

Buying a parts motor is always a good way to assuming you enough room to store it.

Hell, one 14 dollar screw makes it worth it!
