what year is my motor and need part..

I bought an old Evinrude outboard for 100.00 at a yard sale - runs like a sewing machine - need to know what year it is ? its a Evinrude Fisherman serial number 5522-03803 - was told its a 1961 5.5 HP just want to make sure.
Also the shifter handle has been broken off and i would like to replace the homemade shifter with a original- any ideas where I can get one or possibly even another outboard just the same for parts ??

Yep, your motor is infact a 1961 model. This is the first year that the 5.5's went to a needle bearing set up on the crank and rods, so your mix should be 24:1. The ealier ones needed 16:1.

As far as a shifter handle goes, you can either look on ebay, or try any of these sources below. One common reason they break, is because someone layed the motor on the starboard side and that is a no no.
