What wires go to each terminal?

I have a 1984 35hp mercury and I just got a new ignition/key. The guy at west marina said it was the right one for my engine, but this one has an extra terminal. My old one had M,M,A,S,C,B. The knew ignition has the same but also an I for ignition. So my question is... Do i match the wires to the teminals that were on the old one and exclude the extra I terminal? Or do i have to set it up a different way? Any suggestions...

Did the old switch have a push to choke or a seperate choke button? Is the new switch push to choke?

That is the only diffeence I can think of.

Re: What wires go to each terminal?

Both the new one and old are push to choke. I just don't know what wire to put on the I terminal or if i need to use it at all... On the M terminals i have a black wire on one and a black/yellow on the other. On the S i have yellow/red, on C i have Yellow/black, and on B a red wire. The only wires I havn't used are purple, grey and a brownish wire. I'm not sure if that helps at all.

Yes, So far you have them correct. Purple is the ign accessory wire. It should have +12VDC when the ign is in the run positon. I suggest you do a test and see which ign poll this is. The grey should be the tach wire. It doesn't connect to the ign switch.

I am not sure what the brown is. You might go on the maxrules web site and find a wiring diaghram for your motor and figure it out.
