What type of sealant?

I am new to Iboats but I have enjoyed researching the floor repair I am going to have to do. Meanwhile, I am working on a 1996 Sea Ray 200 BR. I am working on buffing out the exterior. It has been neglected for several years and the burgundy was all gray. I am going to be able to get it burgundy again so that is not a big deal. My question is about the hardware that was mounted on the cap of the boat. It all had some white caulk that seemd like a butyl type of caulk at the bolt and screw holes. It was still very sticky sixteen years later. What is this product or what is a recommendation to use to seal under the grabrails and cleats etc. to keep water from weeping in there.
Thanks, Charles

Re: What type of sealant?

Welcome to iboats (yup iboats is spelled with a small i ;))

You can use 3m4200 which is removable but DO NOT use 3m5200 which is permanent. If you are lucky enough to find 3m4000 that is even easier to remove.

If you have a local marina...... just be certain to get a removable type sealant. I would avoid silicone like the plague on a boat :)
