what type of oil?

I just recently got a 1989 Stratos 279FS with an Evinrude E120TLCEM motor, hadn't been on water since 1995. Took to local mechanics they checked water pump, changed plugs, fuel filter, choke solenoid and lower unit oil. I however forgot to ask what type of oil i should use in the tank back by fuel tanks. I'm assuming it is a VRO system? I was very young the last time my parents took me out on the boat so trying to learn everything. My dad can't find any of the manuals.

Thanks

Re: what type of oil?

Any TC-W3 rated outboard oil will work well.
And, welcome.

Hopefully your "mechanic" replaced the waterpump not just looked at it.

They said they checked the impeller and it showed no signs to concern them? It was garage stored, boat looks like it just came off showroom, it may have between 20-30 actual run hours, lot of floating hours because my dad was a tight wad:facepalm:

I was concerned about that as well, but they two guys are well respected around the city had numerous people suggest them to me.

Thanks for your help

Re: what type of oil?

Sorry, if those guys think a seven year old unrun impeller is good to go, I'd be looking for a new mechanic. Most of us won't let an impeller go two years running them .

Re: what type of oil?

It's most likely my fault, I told them we weren't wanting to go overboard on repairs just the necessities. The choke solenoid was $200 just for the part, thinking maybe they tried to save me some money? Are there any videos showing what the stream from the water pump should look like under idle/load conditions? When idling there's a stream, not a strong one, like squeezing a water bottle gently? Then under load it picks up. I've got two tanks, so I changed out the line from the fuel selection switch to the motor, this includes the primer bulb, I didn't change from each tank to fuel selection switch. I'm a complete newbie to owning a boat, so I apologize if I don't follow the suggestions everyone gives me.

Thanks,
Brian

$200 bucks for a choke solenoid? Jeez!

Replacing the impeller would've taken them 5 mins since they already had the water pump off.

Change every inch of fuel line regardless of how it looks.
