Hello folks, i hope all is well with everyone, iv'e been doing some research on some things for the 68 Evinrude 40 hp Lark 10 i just took off that boat, that i bought for $250 i did find the wiring harness on CDI electrical for $216.00 and the connector for another $7 (female) (i think) so anyways i have a great knowledge of DC electrical wiring, also i have alot of wire i got from work. The only thing i really need is some connectors etc. (not much) so now do i buy this harness off CDI for $216 ( yes i can afford it) or tackle this myself for alot less. I know this might sound like simple question here but, do myself? or dive into the unknown and hope for the best. Again the DC knowledge is there so...

I would go with a terminal board / strip.----Make your own wiring diagram as per your colors.----The plug in features / connecter is a factory / dealer time saver.----That is easily bypassed.

If you have the time and materials and enjoy doing it may as well save the $$ for something else.

It might be a good idea to do a full thorough inspection of this motor.-----Compression / bearings / ignition / lower unit electric shift / run the motor.-----Before investing money into a wiring harness.-----Be a shame to spend beer tokens and then find out that the motor is junk.

You know i was thinking the very same thing, it's not like i don't already have another boat ready (and i do) so i can just take my time with it.

you make good point, i think i'm going to look at what can. The commprssion is great, and it has really good spark so (already tested them) bearings? well time will tell on them and if need be we will fix as needed. Also the compression was the 1ST thing i checked when i got the engine so, and if that was junk then, i wouldn't invest any more time into it

I don't know if you've looked at Amazon, but you can buy both male and female wire connectors and the plastic housings in numerous pin configurations. I have to get both male and female connectors for my 200hp Mercury Opti-Max due to corrosion on these connectors/terminals.
Female terminals: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01F7S5LGC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Male terminals: https://www.amazon.com/18-16-Metri-...3cb-b5a7-7f2c30ebe833&pd_rd_i=B01F7S5IB0&th=1.
You can also buy the seals required to make water resistant too. Another option is https://www.amazon.com/18-16-Metri-...3cb-b5a7-7f2c30ebe833&pd_rd_i=B01F7S5IB0&th=1 (just an example for size, multiple different sizes are available).
