Towed my 97 lowe deck boat back from the lake today about 35-40 miles and backed her into the storage facility. It is on a single axle lowe trailer with surge brakes. When unhooking I noticed the s-link on the breakaway cable was hot to the touch whereit hooks to the truck. Safety chains and everything else normal. I mean uncomfortable to hold for more than a few seconds. Confirmed this with another person so i'm sane. Diesel truck so side exit exhaust. Has anyone ever seen this? Thanks
....sounds like you have lost the ground connection through your lighting plug and the trailer is seeking ground through the break-away and/or safety chains.
A quick check with a multi-meter will prove this out.
