I am back to the drawing board finding a motor for my boat. I own a 1980 smoker craft 16x54. I have no clue what model it is or what the max horsepower recommendation is. I’ve looked around online and I haven’t even found a boat that matched the specs for my boat. Wondering if anyone had recommendations for Hp to put on my boat? I’ve had a 6 hp and 15 hp. Really didn’t notice tons of difference in the two.

I will assume 16' length and 54", Beam or Transom width?

What kind of Boat? Utility, Pram, Runabout, Canoe?
I should’ve been more specific I do apologize.

My boat is a 16 foot Jon boat. The base of the transom is 54” wide and the beam of the boat is 70”. I will need a long shaft/tiller set up.

Does the Hull have a HIN? On a Tin Boat, it is usually on a metal strip rivieted to the Starboard side of the Transom. Last 2 digits reveal the Yr

It does. Boat is a 1980. I found that by looking up the hull #. I also looked up the specs on Google and I didn’t find a boat that matched my specs to boat.

Should hold a 35 -- don't think I would mess with switching carbs if the 25 runs well.
I will guess 40 would be the max as I had friends with jon boats that size. You will find the 25 will be more than adequate. Many packages were sold with the economy version having the 25 and the option of a 35 or 40 depending on the brand.
