what prop to use

I want to get a new prop but I don't know if I need a model number off it or what pitch I am suppost to get. How do I figure out which one is best and which one will fit?

Why do you want a new prop what do you want to accomplish?
You need to know your present max rpm and speed,Tell us boat type weight,motor make hp max rated rpm. 2 or 4 stroke.Prop numbers are usually on the barrel or under the prop nut. Size mark, -- X --. or maybe a part number.
