What model is my boat.?

Hi people,

Just found and joined the forum.

Earlier this year I bought my 1st boat, A 1987/8 bayliner run by a mercury 3ltr petrol engine.

The seller told me (with a tiny bit of uncertainty) that it was a Bayliner 742 ciera sunbridge.

I've tried to find this but I feel these are 2 separate boats.?

If I got it right the 742 model is a cuddy yet mine sleeps 4 and I'm thinking thats same as a ciera sunbridge.?

Any hows I've found the HIN on the back of the boat (painted over so was hard to disypher) but that only tells me the boat manufacturer, the serial number of the boat and the month and year the boat was made and registered.

What I can't find is what exact model it is.

I've chucked up some pickys (which include a thunderbird dash lol) and hope someone may know what exact model it is.?

For very specific bayliner info go to baylinerownersclub.com but they are a snippy bunch i quit them two bayliners ago.

for everything else, including motor and plumbing and trailer etc stay here.

Also if that is a cobra sterndrive, not king cobra, you need to lear up on them. Very finicky. Lots of info here on that plus elsewhere.

that is half the motor that boat needs, or twice as much boat as the motor wants to push

If you didnt buy it, I would pass, however you already bought it

the drive and motor are the least of your issues. do a few drill tests in the stringer and transom.

Thanks for the views, ALL the wood is being replaced, I've already taken out the loo enclosure and the sink cup so thats something I'm already doing.

This looks nothing like a Fleet admiral they have a tall command bit with second sneering.

Will duplicate my question on the above said site to try but here looks fabulous for all I need with future questions. Seems to cover everything so I can only hope everyone is eager to help

The boat is fast on the water so the motor is fine. Previous owner had no issues with the boat... think because his friend always maintained it for him.

It us in very good condition for its year, never had any patches or repairs and as for the stern I shall try see what make it is.

I am very new to boats and boating so will not pretend I know whats what hence here for help to get questions asked, have a read and learn as I go.

I will be taking the RYA level 2 then joining the RYA so I can get my ICC licence then I'm ready to move back to Lanzarote.

I shall at some stage have to read up (posts) or look into getting it registered at some point as I have NO paperwork at all so will have to look into that.

If you go to Bayliner's website, click on RESOURCES in the top menu. Then click on OWNER'S CORNER. There will be a drop down menu to select the year you want to look at - and then all of the brochures for that year are available to download. You should be alble to determine the model from that and the HIN of the boat.

Do you have the HIN?

In the UK are boats without a paper trail a problem?

In the US, it can be quite challenging in some states, near impossible in others.

i already gave you the best answer in this thread. Check out replies . Sometimes you have to do the research yourself instead of being spoonfed answers.

I know what she is. She’s a bayliner 2155 cierra model. Most had a v8 omc originally. They were made in the latter part of the 80’s. Usually like 87/88 would be the most of them. They were replaced by the later 2255 model. These had a bathing platform added and a change of power plant towards Mercruiser. Available in 3.0, 4.3 and just occasionally a v8.
You’re 2155, I’ve known a few of. Comments on which, might be that you will almost certainly get your feet wet, if you stand on that wee partial platform on the back.
The one I knew well, had the original v8 removed and swapped for a brand new VP 3.0 with matching SX outdrive. Without the big v8 in her belly, she might be thought a little tippy feeling. Nothing dangerous, but just need to have a mind for clever weight distribution perhaps. This was further emphasised by the seating arrangement and the particularly lofty occupant seating above the water.
You just need to make sure that 3.0 is as healthy as it can be and well propped too. Trim tabs can help with planing initially too. Once on plane, they do just fine though.

No probs. Yeah. It’s a sun bridge. Great wee boats for getting a genuine 4 berths for cheap and a small hull that’s easily managed. Windows were known for leaking and making a mess of the roof lining. I had the 2255. Loved it. She had a 4.3 in her.
Keep an eye on that omc out drive I’d say. If you haven’t used her yet…assume that the outdrive might originally have been geared for a v8. It’s maybe getting away with the 3.0, by means of a huge change in prop pitch…but if not, should be considered at least.

still stand by my statement that there is no better bayliner specific info out there however boat systems are boats systems and this is the best place for that kind of info.
