What might be a concern

As per an ad on Facebook.
Johnson, 15 horse. 1996 Has not been used straight out of the box.
Is a motor that has never been used and still in the box and stored since new, $1200 asking price. Anybody think this would be a good investment. And I am looking for a 15hp for my 14' Jon boat, thanks for any opinions.

Good question, what year is it? I've taken 40+year old used motors that sat many years and got them going. It might be ok.

I would not be worried if truly out of the box ......at 1200$ no tax on top sounds,,,,, like a good deal. a new one would be double the price ??

It needs a new water pump impeller.

When I zoom in to certain areas it appears to be used. I could be wrong but I would want more pictures to prove it.

for me the value goes down as soon as some genius takes it out of the crate and starts it bone-dry with a 20+ year old impeller only to not use it and put it up for sale.

Also staining under the lower cowl.
