Went to check on my boat and noticed this piece had broken off my throttle. I know it’s not the kill switch (boat didn’t come with one) and best I can remember is was just some sort of button that pushed in. Don’t think I ever figured out what it did. Bonus points if you have a part number so I can replace it.

2004 Gxi-E

I’m also planning to install a kill switch so looking for recommendations on the best product.

If possible, try looking behind the controller to see if there's a hanging wire and safety lanyard switch because maybe the nut on the front side came off and the switch fell back behind...If not i believe some of these controllers had a rubber type grommet that filled the hole but can't locate the part number if it did as most of the parts schematics are showing no hole drilled in the plastic if the boat didn't come with a safety lanyard switch.

Could try adding an trim override switch VP part number 3856848 to fill the hole, https://www.ebay.com/itm/2546358719...1291&msclkid=258fbd6cf3301ef9820edf2e8d378807

If you never had a kill switch at this location, it may be a provision for a futur install, blocked by a plug, that got lost at some point. My Volvo shifter has the kill switch but just below. On the picture, I removed the switch to replace it with a new one.

If there is a slotted screw head in the hole it would be a throttle friction adjustment.

It’s where the kill switch lanyard goes…when it has it.
