IBoaters,
I have finally found out what type of boat I own, it is a 1976 Caprice MFG Bowrider. I know I need to remove the floor, take out the old stringers, and clean up the hull to see if there is any further damage I need to be worried about. However, I know I have to replace all my stringers and the fuel box where the fuel tank lies under the floor. The contours of the boat is not straight like a board so I am just asking, How do I go about replacing the stringers???? Does the stringers have to be plywood, 2x4's, or can they be made out of something lighter??? What angles do I need to ensure the stringers are applied correctly??? I am just trying to get all my ducks in a row before I buy any material or rebuild before it is ready to be put back together.

Usually, folks use the deck height as it meets the side of the hull as the reference point (datum) and measure the depth along the stringer location in order to get a depth profile. Then account for the deck thickness, etc in laying out the stringer.

No hull is perfectly flat, so just about every boat stringer has a curve in it up towards the bow.

a variety of materials can be used for the stringer, including dimensional wood, plywood, foam, foam/fiber composites. The key is strength and rigidity.

Welcome Aboard misterfixit ! Sometimes you may be able to cut the old stringers out in one piece and use them for templates . But before you start tearing into things make sure that the hull is supported good with the trailer or cradles .
Ya got this one or the larger one ? File:Mfgb76007.jpg - Classic Boat Library
Start a thread in the restoration section and bring pics.. Nice folks with plenty of know how willing to help you through your rehab ! :)

I do believe I have the bigger one. My boat is enclosed in the bow with a hatch below the upper deck. The hatch is just for storage I think. The seats were back to back plywood seats and it sat six. The maximum motor I can add to my boat is 175 hp. I am excited to get the Caprice started even though it is going to take me a couple of years to finish. I want to make it light and fast without adding a bigger motor. I have a 150 hp motor that I think will move this girl along.

Thanks for the pictures and the advice http://forums.iboats.com/images/smilies/smile.gif.

Another great MFG. I used plywood stringers on mine, that's what was used previously. Your Caprice is a nice big boat. It should be a good project. Not only worry about the stringers but also check the transom thoroughly. Good luck.
