I've searched and just can't find a straight answer.

What temperature is "normal"?

Mine is running 180 deg at plane (according to gauge)
2007 with I assume.. 160 deg thermostat
New to me boat with Impeller I suspect has never been changed
Thanks!

ignore your gauge as they can be very inaccurate

use an IR thermometer. check what temp you are at. you also need to know what thermostat you have.

assuming a 140 degree thermostat, some parts of your engine will be about 150 degrees, some about 90

assuming a 160 degree thermostat, some parts of your engine will be about 170 degrees, some about 100

I think this thermostat is supposed to be 160, Can I tell from looking at it what it's rated for?

It should be a 160 stat. I never had a 3.0 but I have a 4.3 V6 Cobra with the same thermostat housing and exhaust design as the Volvo and it ranges from 160-175. If it is really hitting 180 that is a little too hot. Try taking IR temp gun readings on the stat housing or right where it bolts to the intake manifold. See what you get there.
