What have I got?

I have two mariner motors and I am trying to find out what year and model number they are but all I have appears to be serial numbers, as the numbers that I have do not look like any from parts diagrams. Any information that this great forum can provide would be greatly appreciated.

The info that I have is:
1) 6E9S102970
2) 6E9L502854

I'll assume they are both 40 HP engines???

Serial number 502854 is a 1988 model number 7040416NU MARINER SANSHIN NA 40 ELPTO (Long shaft)

Serial number 6E9 S 102970 could be a 1984 40 hp short shaft mariner engine. .
40C E 6E9-102889 - 6E9-103918 1984

Thank you Fun Times for the info and link. Where do you find the model number 7040416NU? And how do I find the model number for the other one? Thanks again for your knowledge.
