Hi guys,

So I've got my engine ready for powerhead removal. I've removed everything needed and now it's pretty much ready for the hoist to lift. But I got a question for you guys since this is the first time I'm doing this..

Now that I'm gonna have the powerhead off and easy access to pretty much everything. Would it be a good idea to check anything else on the motor?? For those who don't know, I'm pulling off the powerhead on my 78' Merc 80hp to replace something that broke in the swivel bracket assembly, the motor was running great without any issues as far as I know of.. Any advice??

A common failure is the lower crankshaft seals. Might want to change them out for good measure. The're cheap and relatively easy to change. Take a look at the lower main crankshaft bearing while you're in there changing out the seals.

There's also an oring (at least there was on mine) that should be replaced on the lower end cap when you do the seals.

When you say casing do you mean the water jacket. Something like this? badboat2+002.JPG
