I'm going to look at this boat tomorrow and I think the seller is motivated. I really like the lines of this boat and I was wondering if you guys think it's possible that the transom and flooring are still in good shape? The owner claims it was run in fresh water only and that he is the second owner. it's a 1963 Dorsett with a 40 horse Westbend engine. What should I look at tomorow when going over her? Thanks in advance. This is a great site.

Re: What do you think?

it all depends on how the po took care of the boat.

a 40 year old boat can be in better condition than a 5 year old boat.....
if it was garage stored makes a big difference.....

at minimum winter stored with a really good tarp and bow up high.

check the transom for rot...and the stringers if you can get to them.....(search core sample)

water test the craft......

if all checks out, you really like the boat and the price is right........;)

Great looking boat. That's just the kind I was looking for when I was boat hunting here in MD. I ended up with a similar size boat also with a 40HP. Good luck. Let us know how it goes!

cool boat. I had one like that in college with no money to fix it up and it ended up having rotted deck and the keel was cracked. Very bumpy ride, I got rid of it just in time.
I agree, take a good look at it and ride it in some choppy water to see what happens.
