2000 SeaRay 270DA. Pull with a 2017 Ram 2500, crew cab long bed CTD (Cummins turbo diesel).

Boat's 29 ft 10 inches long, and 9800 lbs according to the lift operator* -- add the trailer's 2200 lbs and I'm pulling almost exactly 12,000 lbs. I weighed the truck, and it's 8200 lbs with full fuel. Sometimes it's weird when I think about the fact I'm guiding a 56 foot vehicle weighing 20,000 lbs down the highway.

*I don't know how accurate this is -- I've never put boat+trailer on CAT scales.

We tow for the last 12 years with a 2006 Tacoma TRD O/R. The truck is lifted on a Toytec/Bilstien lift, has factory rear locker, 4X4, air lift, heavy duty rear half shafts. The boat is our bought new 2004 Boston Whaler Nantucket/Outrage 190:

We have crossed the country coast to coast and north to south. Planning a tow to the Big Bend area this fall. The Whaler has crossed to Bimini and to Catalina.

5.3 v8 2013 2wd GMC. 17ft center console Centry. Scales says it’s 3000lbs including 300lbs toung weight. I know it’s back there but still an easy pull. No problem with fresh water ramps but traction would be a problem at hairy salt water ramps. Not enough courage to try that.

As for tongue weight it is 1255 lbs. Sits pretty level;)
Wow...You do realize that payload includes weight of passengers right? Hope you don't tow that far.

One of the reasons I won't buy a Toyota truck. Their payload is too low.

Kinda surprised 1255# doesn't make the back of your truck sag like crazy. I use a WDH even with far less tongue weight with my F-150.

Toyota, and most 1/2T trucks, require a WDH for anything over 5000#.

I tow my Marada 1950 MVB with a 1500 Silverado WT single cab with a 4.3l manual transmission. It'll keep 55 but the two lakes we go to are 40 minutes on state routes. I have a locking differential to put in the truck but the wife wants to do some longer trips and her, the dog, and I need a different vehicle for that

Tundra uses a class 4 receiver which is rated for 10,000 pounds towing and 1000 pounds tongue weight.
I could use a WDH and that would increase my load to 14000 lbs.

1000 pound tongue weight on a truck that has a payload of 1395 pounds. What is wrong with this picture!
My friend has a 2016 Tundra. His hitch is not the same. Manual says anything over 5000# requires a WDH.

The tow ratings were diff in 2007 (mine) compared to the newer Tundras. Toyota changed there ratings when they went to the new standard. ( J2807 )
Toyota was the first to begin certifying vehicles to the new standard beginning in the 2011 model year. Maybe thats why your friends truck requires a WDH and because of a lower class hitch

Re: What do you pull your boat with?

Hey catfish..I had a 95 SE that was the same color! I regret selling that one...4in lift with 34in tires. It was a ton of fun. Never towed a boat with it, but my canoe lived on the roof.

I traded the '92 Pathfinder for a 2010 Nissan Titan SE this past Feb. Tows the Lowe much better.

I tow my old Cajun Fishmaster 2300 with a 2014 f150 typically. It pulls it with ease. If I put it behind the 2018 Dodge 3500...well that beast pulls it like its not really there.

Another Tundra owner here (2007). Pulls the 9500 lb load with ease although it sucks gas like crazy on the hills, fortunately most round trips are about 40 miles and mostly flat.

Don't know the tongue weight but the truck doesn't sag much and I've never felt the need a WDH or sway bar, its very stable at all speeds.
