I have a simple flat bottom skiff 18 ft. I want to install a bus bar or something to run my nav light and anchor light, radio, Gps. I want to have a few extra spots for anything else that may come up. What exactly do I need. I assume a bus bar and fuse block of some sort. Exactly how do you wire them for the fuse to be in riight spot. Again it isnt a high tech set up just a good ole' simple fishing boat.

If I get good advice I am sure I can do it my self. Never done this before so want to get some good info first. Thanks in advance for any help

Buy a fuse block that is hot or connected on one side. Run a larger gauge wire to the hot side. From each individual fuse run a wire to your various accesorries. Or use a bus bar and use inline fuse holders.

In-line fuses have no place in modern wiring since there is a vast selection of very nice fuse panels avaialble with a built-in ground buss.

Thanks for the advise. I will try to find a fuse block and go that route.

I knew absolutely nothing about wiring a boat (and not much about boats either). Bought a copy of this book and did it all myself. Not difficult, just takes a little understanding and the patience to do it correctly.

Boatowner's Illustrated Handbook of Wiring by Charles Wing

Good Luck with it.
