Bought a 1971 starcraft v180 that came with a non-working mercury motor.
Motor is black. Has Mercury 800 and 80hp on it. To remove cover a plate comes off that says thunderbolt ignition and had Kiekhafer Mercury on it. Motor has MARATHON stamped on it. Everything has a number but I cant seem to find one that is a serial number.

not sure if its a mark or thunderbolt.
Any information would be great. Thanks to yall I found the sites to go to once i find out what I have.

thank you

Is the powerhead silver in color and are cowling decals red?

Serial # can be found between the thumb screws on the tilt tube, read from inside the boat. Like in the picture.

Re: What do I have?

I did some cleaning and found the ser # on the tilt tube, 2882803.
So I think I have a Merc 800 year 1970?
Whats the oil fuel ratio?

It has several silver bands and two red bands in middle. Inbetween the red murcury is written in silver. Looking at rear of motor there is 800 written like the murcury on sides and below engine cover a silver 4 between two red lines.

thank you

I ordered a manual. I also tried starting her and do not have a spark.
On the compression test, what should the reading be?
thanks

Readings should be above 100psi and no more than 10% between the cylinders

Re: What do I have?

Got the book and the tester.
Book says to let engine warm up then to preform test. I cant even get it to start, will I still get a reading?
thanks
