I'm not sure I could hit a charging bear w pepperspray, or aim a lethal weapon at it w accuracy!! I think my flight instinct might overide the fight one! Someone said the big ones will use the pepperspray for seasoning your body after they maul your soiled arse to death!!!

I bet they would like the pepper spray for seasoning. Just helping them enjoy you much more. I would not even think about spraying a bear!! I would do something stupid like climbing a tree or something! Geez.... I just pray I don't come across a bear unarmed!

Careful with that pellet rifle. You might shoot a bear's eye out with that thing!

I'm thinking of getting one for squirrel hunting. They are more than capable of taking them, and may not scare the next one on my hitlist, like my .22 seems to!!!. I've tried subsonic rounds but they don't seem to be very accurate in my rifle, and still spook other squirrels in the area. I do enjoy shooting at them w a 30 round clip when they're running for there lives in trees or on the ground though:eek:. It makes me feel like a kid again sometimes:D Imagine a middle aged man, running through the woods chasing a bushytailed rodent. Shotguns are just to easy, not alot of fun using them for tree rats.

Re: What are they thinking?

That's why I carried my Anaconda and pistol gripped Mossberg 12 guage while fishing in Alaska.

I had a buddy who lives up near Anchorage. He explained that you always carry a sidearm in case of bears. I told him I was surprised that even a .45 would stop a charging griz. He said, "you don't shoot the bear. You shoot the guy next to you and run like crazy."

Those old pump action pellet rifles can produce as much or even more punch than a .22 if you work 'em right.

I miss that Anaconda. I didn't carry to win the fight for a fish. I carried to break contact and relinquish my fish to the bear.

Well hunting bears is pretty simple so long as you bring at least one guy that is slower then you are......

I don't have to be faster than a full-grown angry momma grizzly bear. I just have to be faster than YOU. :D

Never shot one. Looks WAAAYYY cool though. Must be a beast to shoot. No double taps, eh? I've shot the .50 cal S&W ... feel that one in your knees when you shoot it.

Not many rounds beat a "Hot" .45-ACP for close range defense against large critters.

Many of my Alaskan freinds carry just that and use many derivitives of the, tried and true-1911-A1.

As far as pellet/BB guns go. They are approaching .22 velocities.

I have two old Crossman 760's (.177 cal.) that have brought down many a: Dove, squirrel, rabbit-most small game. They are quite amazing and dirt cheap to shoot. Both my boys learned accuracy with those.

My oldest "760" was bought new in 1975. It still works great. A little oil, in the seals, and she holds great pressure.

Re: What are they thinking?

I think the 45s are so popular because almost anyone can rapidly unload one w a great grouping, and the power or lethality is pretty good for an automatic as said, w good ammo. They also are lighter, smaller, easyer to carry and draw than the big revolvers. I'd feel just as safe w one esp. one w high capacity. I'd rather have 16 than 6 in any bad situation:eek:

Re: What are they thinking?

Oh yeah - Not too much beats a nicely built 1911 .45ACP. Even for as nice as a Glock shoots, a 1911 style (dialed in properly) is much more smooth. - - Sorry, total hijack there.

BB's won't kill Bears :D
