What are stingers?

Hey guys great to be a newbie.
Bought a used boat for the first time .
Should have sombody who new what to look for.
At some point it had been in the water.
Any way I am redoing the floor and have torn it out.
Flotation was soaked so took that out also.
My question is are the metal pieces down the middle of my boat the
stringers or something else.
The floor had been crudly replaced and I did not see any wood or fiberglass
pieces every one talks about.

Stringers are pieces of wood that run the length of the boat that are fiberglassed over to give the boat strength and rigidity. Just use the search feature and you'll find a ton of pictures and info about them (and usually the transom too).

Ironically enough, I was just given a boat that also has a craptacular floor in it with angle iron in place of where the floor braces used to be (running across the boat, not length-wise). Haven't ripped it up yet, but I'm assuming that the stringers will be trashed too.

If your stringers are MIA, or just rotten, be sure to check your transom too as they usually go hand in hand.

Deals from your description I am guessing you have an aluminum bot possibly even a Starcraft . Some pics will help us verify what you have . I will say if it is infact a Starcraft then the metal stringers run front to back and look somewhat like a straightened out Z if you look at them from the ends.

Thanks guys for your quick reply.
It is actually a Sylvan.
It looks as if the transom may have already been replaced.
I bought it at a body shop so they made it look shiney and new.
So the stingers do not run across but just length ways.

It sounds likeI have stringers but not floor braces.
