Here are a few sites along the way. I can see the river and the water fall from the first pics from the balcony of the apartment. Its the Menomonee River. The Last pic with the building is a kiln that hasnt been operational in over a hundred years. They used to float limestone down the river to these kilns on barges back before they dammed the river to create the pond in the first pic. I you followed the river from here, eventually I could reach Lake Michigan.

Re: Went for a LONG walk today..........................

Sure looks familiar to me.
Maybe because I lived a block away from there.
Lost my superball in lime kiln park.

Across the street (behind you as you took the picture of the falls) is a little eatery, I think. It used to be a bar, The Hob Nob. My dad spent many days there. Also the bar on 74 & 175, and the vfw in Sussex. That is where I got hooked..... on KitKat bars and orange soda.

I lived on Mill Street one block south of 74. N88 W 164??

The walking path used to be crushed gravel.
If you walk south of the kilns a bit farther, there is another small dam, about 3 feet high. The neighbors took me fishing there when I was 3 years old. Put my fish in a coffee can and looked at it swim in circles.

If we crossed Mill Street we were in the park. Walk through the park to the river, cross the walking bridge, walk another block and you are in the parking lot of Grace Lutheran Church.

Tripped on a crack in the sidewalk along Mill St. too. Split my chin open, still have the scar.

My cousin just sold her duplex which was 2 block north of the falls.

Thanks for the memories.

So... Where the heck do you live?

NOW, if this isn't the same place, I must be losing my mind.

Roscoe-

I live in Germantown, but my girlfriend lives in an apartment right near the falls...........so technicaly I live there as well :) . The building is right near the corner of 175 and 74, above one of them chinese restaurants. This duplex you speak of......is it red? There is another duplex that I remember seeing on maybe Cleveland Ave that just recently sold too.

The eatery you speak of I'm sure has changed names a few times.......the buildings on that side of the street look like they may have been restored recently.

Wow, small world.
Haven't seen my cousins place in 10 years, think it was white, 2 blocks north, west side. I doesn't look like a duplex, old house converted.

If you walk south from the falls, is there still a big parking lot on the east side, as you enter the park?

Well, on the west side of the street, there was 2 apartment buildings, facing the open field between them.
Now the field is filled up with condos or apartments.
I lived in the south apartment building from 1962-1966.

My dad drove one of his old antique cars down by the kiln for some photos. I'll have to try to dig them up.

I told her to do something funny cuz she wanted a pic of her by the water........guess she cant do that lol :)
No, I don't remember her, I hope I behaved myself. :)

Yep, looks familiar. Caught one of the first fish of my life, right there, I think.

Did you see any deer in the park?

Yeah roscoe, I'd say every other time in there we see some deer. A lot of times we take walks in the evening, and a few times we would turn the corner and see one or two deer in the path.

I think the old Hob Nob is now called Betsy's, and would you live up by Harvey Wong's? I think that's the name, used to eat there once in a while .... 30 years ago !!

Re: Went for a LONG walk today..........................

Roscoe I think you are reffering to Harvey Moy's, and its still there, and its still great chineses food. I'm not sure what was in the building I "live" in when you lived here, but now its some oddball chinese place......its a few doors East of Harvey Moy's. It really sucks to be hungry around there because I am constantly smelling either George Webbs from across the street or both chinese places. Tomorrow I will see what eateries are on that side of the street. I know there is something called "Main Street Bistro".

KB- she has blue eyes.......but I have already learned many times to watch what I do. She can get rather firery, especially when I deliberately get her riled up. :D

Yup that Webbs is still there, but I refuse to go to it. The service is horrible at that particular Webbs. Have gone to about every other on in the area though :)

Do you by any chance remember if those apartments had washer/dryer hook up? Called their number but no response yet.

Oh G*d.
I was only 4 when we moved out of there in 1966.
But the building had a full basement.
Mom had a washer in the basement.
Don't know what they have now days.
Apartments were all 2 bedroom, eat-in kitchen, pretty basic.
