Does anyone know if a 1982 WellCraft has wood in the fiberglass hull and if the hulls have issues?

Yes. In that time period 95% of glass boats were wood structured. wellcraft had a reputation at the time for quality. 40+ years later with probable rot, that means nothing. Current condition is everything. How the glass itself is laid will be better than a lesser brand while the issues will be the same

1982 . . . most likely . . .

Here are some pictures of a 1982 Wellcraft Scarab showing the wood in the transom and the deck coring.

A 1982 boat, being 42 years old, probably some issues, unless some prior work has been done. You will have to decide upon further investigation into the boat.

Ya I think wood core in this 1998 Wellcraft 240SE (pic is engine room when engine was pulled in 2015). Not sure the what time period is when 95% of glass boats were wood- structured, but pretty sure this one is.

My 1979 Scarab Sport was wood core.----Pulled out a lot of it in 94 and all it was was wood flakes / powder.----Call " beaver puke " if you will.------Shameful when the brochure says " World class boats " in my opinion.

Wellcraft had a rail spur that delivered 40 tons of wood at a time. Most for the hull, some for the cabinets. Confirmed by the guy that used to order the wood in the 80s

So yes, all wellcraft boats built in Sarasota Florida were wood structure hulls wrapped with a bit of glass. Even when they switched to foam stringers, the transoms were wood. That continued to their closing the Sarasota facility in 2009.

The OP has not been back since posting the original question. This could be a hit 'n run.
