Having a weird fuel issue with my 1989 115hp Evinrude 2 cycle. When initially pumping the ball, I have to pump and pump and pump for a really long time and it never gets hard but I get enough through that I can start the motor and then I have no problems. I tried replacing the ball but got the same result. I have only had the boat for a couple months and it has only recently started doing this. There is some kind of in line filter that is about as big as an oil filter on a car. Could it be that this is clogged and needs replaced? Any info is much appreciated.

First, check all of your hose connections; you may be sucking air at one of them. You need to check from the tank and all the way to the carbs. Yes you need to change that filter which sounds like you have a fuel/water seperator filter. Then I have found that its easier to pump fuel if you ponit the primer bulb up with the arrow on the bulb pointing up. That suggestion came from "the Machinist" and works like a charm. Good luck

Also, the BRP balls work better than aftermarket stuff.
