Recently smoked an impeller after running the engine dry (ear muffs had vibrated off the intake, didn't realize...etc). Installed the water pump kit and when re-installing the lower unit, did not guide the copper water tube into the water pump properly. Jammed the copper tube (so it kinda resembled a "z" in there instead of say a nice candy-cane shape up to the block) and pinched it, possibly in 2 places. Even though I was able to straighten it out some, pinch is still there and when installed, discharge only dribbles water.

How can I replace this tube? Is there any quick fix otherwise that anyone knows of? Other than emptying the gas can on the POS and throwing a match at it?

The model # is (Johnson) J40 ECRM, again, 1984.

Thanks a lot.

Don't know of any quick fix unless you can get up in there and cut the tube off and solder a new piece on using a plumbing collar.

To replace the tube, you'll have to remove power head and lower pan. Then remove the adapter to which the tube is attached. Not a hard job with a service manual. You can pull the power head all in one piece so you won't have to remove anything from it.

If the tube is kinked, it would be best to replace/repair it else you take the chance of not getting full water flow to the head from the pump.

Thanks a lot - I have not ventured intot his realm with the SELOC manual, which is what I have. Will this cover it do you think?

Probably show you how to remove the power head...not really sure.

The tube fix is just something I've done before. But you gotta' have room to get above the last kink and make a fairly good cut.

An OEM manual would show you how to replace the tube as the OEM manual is specific to your engine.
