Water in the lower unit

Changed the gear oil in the lower unit. ('86 force 50) A small amount of water water came out first, followed by light brown oil. This is OK- Right?

Not Good<br /> Seal on prop shaft is shot or the gaskets on the fill hole is leaking

No gaskets on fill hole. Where can you order them?

Mercury dealer is your best bet, or possibly a decent hardware store will have them. This is a type "B" lower unit. Correct me if I'm mistaken. Thanks.

If it's still leaking after changing the above seal and gaskets, you will have to remove the LU and replace drive shaft and shifter seals. Hopefully this won't be necessary although it's not that hard to do.

Don't know what you mean by a "b" lower unit.<br />I only see 3 model versions for the 1986 50hp motor.<br />All three show the same lower unit in the diagrams.<br /><br />? ?

That reference to a type "B" lower unit is from a shop manual I picked up on Force outboards. I beleive its put out by Seloc Publications.

The best bet is to take your model number ( and the plug in hand ) and go to a local Mercury dealer. If they don't have them, they will get them within a day or two. That way you won't have to pay shipping either.
