I have a 1988 force and it will not spit water. I checked out the impeller and it seems to be ok. What I do. A local shop said check the head gasket. Does anyone agree with this?

Your getting no water at all? Is it sitting on a boat in the water or are you using a tub or muffs? You said it seems ok, are you 100% sure? For $20 which is what it would cost to replace, I would try that first. Make sure the key is in place and that it spins with the shaft. Make sure the gaskets and housing are in good shape as well.

make sure the inlets are not clogged and when you reinstall the LU that the water pipe plugs into the motor correctly.. Also might want to remove the thermostat for a test.

I was told to replace the impeller too, but I can't find one it it is bad. By the way, it spits out water okay. Thanks

I found one! Not at duckworks though. I tried that site number and came up empty. When I tried just the .com part I got a site for sailboats. On the other thread I got into I was given a part number for an impeller that Mercury makes that would work in a Chrysler. Not bad for $16.
