Water/Fuel Separator Determination

Have a 1987 120 hp. Mercruiser I/O, that has no water/fuel separator on it. Two questions: Do I use the short or tall filter? Where to install, prior to fuel filter or after? Thanks.

With the size engine you have (small fuel flow) I would suggest just the standard element.
I like to mount our separators in the engine compartment as close as practical BEFORE the fuel pump. The present filter can be removed as the separator will perform an excellent job.
