I was wondering if they caught up with the boat before it hit, Would they have salvage rights??

That is why they make safey lanyards! could have been bad if a unsuspecting boater had wound up in its path.

Can you say "OUCH!"

I guess that could have been included with a poll "How many operators use the safety lanyard tied to the kill switch?"

Does that means the people who boarded the boat to turn off the engine can claim salvage on that boat! :)

They should have totally stuntmanned that...

I would have pulled along side and jumped boat to boat, and tried to take control... they could have saved the boat a horrible death... and worse case maybe gotten a little rub-rail bump... (and maybe a nice reward :) ) It looked like it was running pretty darn straight.

Then again, I'm kinda crazy like that LOL

On a serious note, hope the owners who were thrown are ok, and sorry to see how their boat got trashed... :(

I can't help but wonder why the guys who jumped in to go turn it off approached from the front of the boat? If it had broken loose from the rocks they would have been run over.

just saying....

I never use the safety lanyard, but this is definitely a time where it could have been EXTEREMLY helpful!!

There is no reason for any training to use about. Yes the guys who went to the bow to get on it were very lucky it didnt break free and run them over. I dont think I would have stunt maned it but I have been known to do stupid things. I would think they should have salvage rights. But then when trying to sell it, prospective buyer " has there ever been any hull damage?"
Seller " well you see, whathahapenwaasss...."

First of all Numlaar you've been watching too many movies, trying to jump from one out boat to another in a 2 to 3 ft chop ain't my idea of live long and laugh about those good times.
Anyway what's funny to me is I watched the video and was thinking those rocks look mighty familiar and lo and behold after looking at the caption realized it was the ole St. Lucie. Boat wouldn't have gone far if it had cleared the rocks as there are numerous shallow islands just behind Sailfish Point. We have many wonderfull memories of times out on the flat's as we called it when the area was a sleepy fishing village. As high as the rocks are, it's amazing the entire bow wasn't torn off the boat.

Interesting video though.

Why is everyone talking about salvage rights? How would you feel if you flew out of your boat, and it kept going and someone was nice enough to chase it and kill the motor before it seizes, and then they keep it?

By the way those two guys scrambled I would have to say it was their boat, and the way they climbed up onto the bow was pure desperate adrenalin. The rock route would have messed up their knees for sure.

Amazing how far that boat went what appeared to be perfectly straight. I fall out of my boat, and it's going to circle around and run over me in pretty short order.......
