warning horn after oil change

I have an 2001 4 stroke 75hp mecury outboard. I took it out of the water for the winter, all was well. I changed the motor oil with 25-40w (recomended) and the filter. When I started it up using ear muffs the warning horn went off after 20 -30 seconds of running. I shut it off and tried it again a couple more times - same thing. Warning horn sounded after 20 - 30 seconds. The tell tail water was flowing just fine it was not hot, just luke warm (normal) so I don't think it is over heating. Does anyone have any sugestions?

Have no idea as to what the recommended viscosity of oil is for 4 cycle engines. 25-40w is pretty thick oil, especially for winter operation. But if your Merc owners manual specifies it then so be it.

Remove your new filter and see if it is full of oil. If so, your oil pump is working.

Did you disturb anything (like disturbing wiring/connectors) to speak of while draining the oil? Was it working before "all you did was to change the oil and filter"?

What is the oil level on the dipstick? Is it full?

Remove the oil pressure sensor and crank the engine ready for a quick turn off with suitable rags/towels to catch the oil. Did you get a good stream of oil out of the hole? A second test for oil pump operation if so.

I believe that he said this is a four stroke so that would be very bad information.
